Why summer tyres?
Summer tyres are made from a hard rubber compound which is designed for optimal performance at temperatures above 7°C. The hard rubber compound softens in warmer weather and provides excellent grip and traction on both dry and wet roads.
Sometimes referred to as performance tyres, summer tyres are extremely responsive and provide excellent grip and traction. The simple tread pattern found on summer tyres maximises their contact with the road, which provides optimal handling and minimises stopping distances, even when it rains.
To get the most from your car through the warmer months of the year, you need to fit summer tyres. However, when temperatures drop below 7°C, the performance of summer tyres is not as good as winter tyres or all-season tyres. This is because the hard rubber compound stiffens in colder temperatures, whereas winter and all-season tyres are designed to resist the colder weather.
